What Is This?
Hello, I bet you are wondering what this is exactly. Well, this is my page for a very special purpose. Let me start out by coming out of the broom closet; I AM A WITCH.
Now now I am not that kind of witch. I do not ride brooms, I use them to sweep just as you do. Actually, I have a swifer. I don't even own a broom besides a besom. Yes, that is different. I am unaware of any warts and I love dogs. Toto is safe from harm but not from my hugs or baby voice. If you drop a house on me I will die although my shoes are not of great value and my legs will not shrivel up.
Defining a witch is hard to do. That kind of like defining a person; you can say you are a human but what is that besides a genius-species name and a text book definition? To Google's horrible credit there are these definitions offered:
A woman (even though I know many male witches - throw out all you think you know. If any male calls himself a warlock instead of a witch he either doesn't know his shit or he is claiming to be evil) thought to have evil magic powers.
Why does magic have to be evil? Let me tell you now that many "mysterious" things happen in your life and all of that can be pointed to magic. For example, I am pressing buttons right now and words are appearing. MAGIC! When you start your car, that's magic. If you develop a skin rash after having a nasty conversation with someone that could be a hex, you could also have washed your sweater in some weird detergent.
Back in the day (as in before Jesus or the Romans) the main religion was Paganism. There was a belief in a system of Gods and Goddesses much like the Greeks Mythology that is so popular today and every civilization had a system of multi-Gods rather than a singular God. We know this, it is widely taught. Everything these Gods did that humans could not do were considered powers. But it could also be called magic.
Look at the second definition down, number 2: A believer or follower of Wicca; a Wiccan. That is my definition. That is how I define myself as a witch. Everything else is propaganda nonsense and I won't have it. Any of it. The Witch Trials fascinate me but don't make me cringe. If you were to burn me at the stake right now I would perish with sadness at how ignorant people can be. But that's our lot.
Now Ivyanna isn't my real name. Not my "christian" or "given" name. Ivyanna is my magical name and I will explain more about that later. I am not exactly afraid of persecution but being open about being a witch does make things complicated even in these modern times. I, like many others, like to use our magical names in all things magical. This was the name I found for myself in my studies and I like to keep it associated with my magic. My real name, the one on my drivers license, birth certificate, SS card, ect was not something I found and though it is apart of me it is not apart of my journey. It's just an ill fitting label. It says nothing about who I am, holds no real significance except when someone says it I turn my head. Ivyanna means you know me magically and that is how I would like to keep this.
I will go on about my journey in these pages. I will add my spells and magical findings, my thoughts, The Craft, my blunders and my successes. By all accounts you are perusing my grimore, my Book of Shadows. Welcome.
